How To: Gift Wrap a Coffee Mug

I love this idea for a company gift or for someone who loves coffee/ tea! 

As a gift for the past donators to the LBJ Museum of San Marcos

I gift wrapped our company coffee mug. 

These cellophane bags were found at Hobby Lobby for about $2 for 50 bags.

Create interest with this white paper filler, also found at Hobby Lobby for about $3

Tie around the top of the bag with matching ribbon, Gold & Black, measuring about 1 1/2 feet long and knot it. May need to pull on the top of the bag to fluff it up. 

Using the blade of a pair of scissors, curl the ribbon. 

How To: Polaroid Picture Photo Booth

Plenty of props make for plenty of fun in a photo booth

The background was two long strips of leftover Christmas gift-wrap!

Polaroid picture frame made from 2.5' x 3' foam board from Hobby Lobby.
Take an Exacto Knife 4" from the 3 edges (top, left and right side)
and 8" from the bottom.

My Golden Birthday

For those who don't know. I turned 23 this weekend!

I called it my Golden Birthday because I turned 23 on the 23rd of February.

Whether or not that's correct doesn't matter to me.

As long as I have a cocktail in my hand and confetti in my hair, I'm Golden :)

Me and all my closest friends, some didn't make the photo reel :(, celebrated my Golden Birthday by taking a party bus to Sixth Street in Austin, TX one night and then ended the weekend with a dinner at my favorite sushi/ hibachi restaurant and finished with a bang at my party held at my apartment.

How To: Make a Piñata Dress?

What You'll Need:

- black dress

- 4 reams of different colored paper-streamer

- fabric glue

- scissors

- a plate of cardboard (you can buy these at a craft store)

I bought this simply, ugly black dress from Target for about $9.99 and used it as a base to create a piñata dress for a costume party. 

1. Cut the streamer into 1 1/2 ft. long strips to cover the front half of the dress
2. Go ahead and assemble your colors of streamer and cut half inch slits to create some texture
3. Slide the cardboard piece in between the dress to stretch it out so the streamer wouldn't tear when I wore it
4. Layer each strip of streamer onto the dress using the fabric glue (I glued them kind of close together so there wouldn't be any of the dress underneath showing when I wore it)
5. Repeat. 

In this picture you can't tell, but I only had time to do the front-half of the dress. 

I finished the costume off by using two small strips of extra streamer and tied it around my head like a head band and some rosy lips to match. 

TIP: If you are planning on getting your freak on, on the dance floor, then I suggest to do only doing the front. 

PLUS, it is a lot easier to manage when you want to sit down. 

H.W. Brands Visits the LBJ Museum

Dr. H.W. Brands, professor at University of Texas-Austin and best selling author, spoke at the LBJ Museum of San Marcos last night for the museum's 2nd Lecture Series.

The lecture series was titled, "The Johnson Presidency: A 50 Year Retrospective." Many attendees joined to listen to the historian highlight the late President Johnson 50 years later.

My favorite part of Brands' speech was the part about how ,"Johnson knew he could never be president if he was considered a southerner."

Yes, I was born in Texas and have grown-up in Texas and I plan to die in Texas. So why would that be my favorite part?

Because Brands made it so clear to me that Johnson had ambition. And that he wanted power. 

"Yes, Johnson wanted power. But Johnson wanted power for a purpose ... He wanted power because he wanted to change this country," Brands explained. 

At the event the museum provided the attendees with food and wine, sponsored by HEB and Gil's Broiler.

Attendees were encouraged to participate in the silent-auction of a few of Brands' best selling books including:

• "The Man Who Saved the Union"
• "The First American"
• "Traitor to His Class"

All proceeds were a direct donation to the museum.

As a Texas State University student, I was glad to hear this speech and learn what it takes to be not just a good president, but a great president.

How To: Bachelorette Party Scavenger Hunt Signs

 

This past weekend was our good friend, Brenda's, bachelorette party in Houston, TX. So, for the occasion I made these cute scavenger signs while we were bar-hopping. 

The neon signs are store bought in a packet, the letters and kissy stickers were from Hobby Lobby or your local craft store. 

They are super easy to make and can be re-used for other special get-togethers like, birthdays or even bachelor parties.
